Device Closure Procedure in Congenital Heart Disease
ASD Closure: An ASD is a hole in the heart between the two upper chambers. The procedure uses a device to plug the hole, a patch to cover it or sutures to sew it shut. It may involve open-heart surgery or a minimally invasive procedure using a catheter to place the closure device.
VSD Closure: A child with a Ventricular Septal Disease (VSD) has a hole in the wall between the left and right ventricles. The hole lets blood flow abnormally from the left ventricle into the right ventricle. As a result, too much blood may go to the lungs.
